DAF trucks return to Brian Yeardley Continental fleet

For the first time in six years, DAF is back in the high-profile Brian Yeardley Continental fleet, following the delivery of a XF105 Super Space tractor unit.
The new unit is powered by Paccar's 510bhp Euro 5 MX engine and is already proving to be an outstanding performer in Brian Yeardley's operation, according to its managing director Kevin Hopper. "I was very impressed with the performance on its first international run: fully loaded with 24.5 tonnes, its average fuel consumption was 10.4mpg on a round trip to Southern France," explains Hopper. "As we are all aware, with rising costs, the better the mpg the better it is for the transport company's profitability," he adds. Due to the cross-continental nature of Brian Yeardley's operation, the company has specified its FTXF105.510 as left-hand drive on a low ride chassis Super Space cab and AS-Tronic gearbox. To maximise safety, a lane-departure warning has also been fitted, as well as a night lock, while a long-range 1,200-litre fuel tank ensures the vehicle can cover the distance between fuel stops. "We are very pleased with the truck's performance – so much so that we have placed another order for an additional DAF XF105 Super Space to arrive with us on 1 January 2012. And we are also discussing a road train drawbar project with them as well," concludes Hopper.
