East Riding Sacks says it bought MAN tractor units for the first time, because of their "productivity potential" on country-wide distribution.
The UK's largest independent paper sack manufacturer replaced two ageing units with MAN TGX 26.440 BLS 6x2s under three-year contract hire through MAN Financial Services.
"The importance of this is very great in our market, as keeping our overall distribution costs to a minimum helps us to compete with large international manufacturers – and having a reliable truck is an added bonus," says transport manager David Hanson.
"The trucks went on the road on the 1st June and so far so good, in that the trucks have performed exactly as we would have hoped. As a bonus, the drivers have really taken to them," he adds.
Hanson also rates MAN's 'Add Nothing' engine technology, since it means no AdBlue stocking or filling. "At the moment fuel economy is acceptable at just over 9mpg and we feel that, once our drivers have completed a driver training course with MAN trucks later in the year, this should improve."
