Wiltshire-based bus operator Salisbury Reds, part of the Go South Coast group, has taken delivery of its first fully electric, zero-emission vehicles – three Enviro200EV single-deckers.
Produced by the BYD ADL (Alexander Dennis Ltd) partnership, the 10.8m-long vehicles have 24 seats, overall capacity for 66 passengers, and have gone into operation on park and ride services.
Powered by a 330kWh electric motor and iron phosphase batteries, each vehicle can cover 160 miles on a single charge, and will deliver annual savings of 32 tonnes of CO2 and 15.5 tonnes of NOx compared to an equivalent diesel-powered vehicle, according to the manufacturer.
The operator’s total investment of £1.2m was subsidised with £600,000 from the government’s Low Emisson Bus Scheme.
