Halifax director found guilty of falsifying driver records

Danny Steven Sawrij, from Halifax, has been fined £300,000 and was ordered to pay £150,000 costs, following a VOSA investigation, and subsequent court hearing.
Sawrij was the director of company trading as Alba Transport. He was found guilty of failing to ensure that drivers kept proper records in driver record books. He also failed to provide relevant documents for evidence to VOSA examiners when requested "VOSA will always take robust action against operators who deliberately flout the law and there could be serious consequences as this case shows," says Heather Cruickshank, VOSA's operations director. "These operators not only take the risk of severe financial penalties from the courts but they could also lose their good name and gain a criminal record."
