Highways contractor drives off with first MAN vehicles

Highways maintenance operator Ringway has taken delivery of its first MAN vehicles for use on a contract with North Yorkshire County Council.

Supplied by dealer North Yorkshire commercials, the 20-strong order includes 13 TGM 18.290 4x4s, three TGM 26.340 6x4s, two TGS 26.360s and two TGL 8.180s.

All are powered by Euro 6 engines – D08 180bhp 4.6 litre units on the TGLs and D08 6.9 litre 341bhp and 290bhp on the TGMs (26 tonne and 18 tonne respectively).

The TGLs were specified with six-speed manuals, while the TGMs take the ZF 12-speed MAN Tipamtic AMT (automated manual transmission). All have been fitted with ECON’s low-throw salt delivery system bodies.

The MAN package, says Ringway’s division fleet manager Paul Price, represented the best value for money.

“We chose a selection of different sizes because of the different terrains we have to cover as part of our contract with North Yorkshire County Council.”

The ability to choose consistent chassis and spreader types, he adds, was a key benefit as it provides “vehicle familiarity for the drivers, and easier operation and maintenance of the fleet.”
