German commercial vehicle parts manufacturer Jost is in advanced talks to buy Mercedes-Benz TrailerAxleSystems from Daimler.
The deal is expected to complete early in 2015.
No financial details of the acquisition have been released and it will be subject to approval by the usual European competition authorities.
Jost has been planning to expand its range by offering trailer axles.
Mercedes-Benz TrailerAxleSystems has been making commercial vehicle axles since 1996, so the business will fit neatly with Jost's ambitions.
