The design is based on the Loadmaster Lite, but offers a 300kg weight saving thanks to the use of Hardox 500tuf steel – the first tipper body in the UK to use this. The new steel is stronger and more resistant to abrasion, meaning the vehicle floor can be 20% thinner than the Loadmaster Lite. Other changes include a 20% reduction in the side panel thickness to 3.2mm, and a 3mm-thick headboard.
Also at Tip-Ex, Paneltex Martrans showed its new lightweight range of walking floor bodies. One was a 10.75m walking floor trailer for WR Cross & Sons. “For these latest models, we have reengineered the body, changing the shape to a tapered sided body, as well as simplifying the overall hydraulics, while also installing a lighter V6 floor system,” says Chris Berridge, managing director of Paneltex. “All these changes have combined to allow us to manufacture our lightest ever models which we showed for the first time.”
