MacPlant Construction acquires first new Volvo

Rigids Tippers
Bude-based civil engineering and surfacing business MacPlant Construction has purchased its first new truck, a Volvo FM-500 8x4 rigid tipper, chosen for its power and durability as well as the dealer’s ability to supply the vehicle without delay.

Fitted with a Wilcox insulated body, the vehicle is already out working on MacPlant’s contracts for Devon County Council.

The FM-500 replaces an older vehicle and joins three other used Volvos on the fleet.

“We really like them and so decided to keep to the marque. We required 500 horsepower as we are quite often dealing with steep hills and we needed the power to cover that,” says Ryan Vincent, director at MacPlant Construction.

Supplied by dealer Truck and Bus Wales and West, the rigid is specified with an extra-high chassis and B-ride rear spring bogie suspension, the company opted for the versatile FM-500 to power it up the Devon hills.

The sleeper cab tipper also comes with Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox, front and rear anti-roll bars, leather seats and an EBS medium package that includes a hill-hold function.

Speed of supply by the dealer clinched the deal, adds Vincent. “We needed this vehicle in a rush – we are so busy and we were desperate for the lorry. Volvo’s response was faster than other manufacturers and they were able to deliver it very quickly.”
