The TGX’s TipMatic TX AMT (automated manual transmission), for example, now includes additional functions such as a gradient sensor and active damping.
The gearbox ratio spread and a newly developed clutch actuator are also claimed to improve handling – with a new Active Driveline Damping function helping drivers to move off smoothly, while an anti-cyclic, pulsed clutch actuator counteracts any vibrations in the driveline.
Accelerator and clutch controls have also been designed to interact more smoothly, and the TGX D38 also now offers a rocking-free function for difficult conditions, such as snow-covered roads or construction sites.
MAN explains that the correct gear is selected automatically to reduce torque to the drive wheels, so avoiding spin.
Meanwhile, MAN’s EfficientCruise has been upgraded: it will now automatically activate EfficientRoll to save fuel not just on downhill stretches, but also on near-flat roads where the vehicle can shift automatically to neutral without engine braking.
Beyond these, MAN says it has further improved its EBA emergency braking system, which combines information from a front sensor and windscreen-mounted camera, allowing faster interpretation of vehicle trajectories and obstructions ahead.
EBA reacts to a detected object and to the absence of driver response (either a change of lane or braking) with several alerts.
The first is a warning tone and a display message: the system also pre-fills brake lines to maximise response, brake lights are activated, and engine torque is cut. If there is no reaction, emergency brakes are applied automatically.
Other features include a new lane guard system and adaptive cruise control, which now have two independent sensor systems – radar and camera.
LED daytime driving lights are being incorporated in the main headlights, with automatic light and automatic rain sensing systems also offered.
