Mercedes Actros is the right ingredient for Euro Foods

Food distribution business Euro Foods Group has taken delivery of two 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks, with Solomon bodies, to use for its new web-based brand Kukd.com.

The Newport-based operator's new vehicles – its first Mercedes trucks for 10 years – are Actros 2532L ENA models with tag axles and ClassicSpace single-sleeper cabs.

They are fitted with temperature-controlled bodies by Solomon, which feature Slipstream single-compartment freezers with curved roofs.

Neill Cannell, transport manager, says the persistence of dealer Euro Commercials paid off and he decided to trial the Euro 6 Actros.

"I'd been attracted to the new model by its modern appearance and excellent reputation for fuel efficiency, and the demonstrator did not disappoint," he says. The drivers, he adds, particularly liked the PowerShift automated transmission.

The Solomon body features a cab roof with twin curved fairings flanking the Carrier 850 refrigeration unit. Rounded panel cappings reduce turbulence, while a Kamm tail accelerates airflow down off the back of the vehicle, reducing drag.

Euro Foods specified Dhollandia slide-out lifts instead of column tail-lifts, and each vehicle has been fitted with a 360-degree camera system by Kits-n-Bits, of Cardiff.

The two Actros are supplied on a Mercedes-Benz Financial Services lease agreement.
