Waste management business Go Waste has added a Mercedes-Benz Arocs to its 18-strong fleet and says the latest acquisition is already delivering better fuel performance than any of its other eight-wheelers.
Supplied by dealer Midlands Truck & Van, the Birmingham-based operator's 8x4 Arocs 3240 is powered by a 394bhp, 10.7-litre engine, driving through a PowerShift automated transmission.
Fitted with hook-loading gear by Reload Systems, of Oldbury, the Arocs carries a range of roll-on roll-off bodies, including large skips, shallower 'muckaway' bodies for construction or demolition waste, and platforms for moving plant equipment.
"We would never bother to measure a new truck's mpg figures until it had been on the road a few months," says Mick Jones, Go Waste's managing director. "But the Arocs is already looking very good – definitely better than any of our other eight-wheelers."
Jones says he initially planned to buy a used vehicle, but decided to go for a new one when he saw the Arocs demonstrated.
"The truck has great presence and is clearly built for the conditions it will face in this job," he adds. "It's a joy at the wheel, too – the automated transmission is very smooth and makes the driver's life so easy."
The Arocs has been supplied with a five-year Mercedes R&M contract.
