His career began as an apprentice draughtsman with Metro Cammell Weymann in 1965, where he remained for 23 years on the design team for the Metrobus and Metrocab taxi.
Other highlights included roles at van converter CG Whittaker (Europa Coaches), Autobus Classique, Bessacarr Caravans and SC Coachcraft, where he designed the Mercedes 817L-based Vision coach.
After spells at Marshall Bus, Autocruise Motorhomes and Oughtred and Harrison, Seale (pictured) returned to Optare in 2011.
He was also technical author of ‘Midland Red: a history of the company and its vehicles’, and co-founder of the Transport Museum Wythall, near Birmingham.
Robert Drewery, Optare’s commercial director, described Seale as “an invaluable member of the Optare team”, adding: “We all wish him well in his retirement which will no doubt still feature his passion for all things bus.”
Seale said: “Working in a job that you have a real passion for is a privilege enjoyed by few. I am fortunate that I have been able to achieve my ambitions.
“However, people are an important part of this industry and it will be these who I will miss the most. I would not have been able to make this journey without them.”
