Express logistics firm Priority Transport has expanded its fleet with three Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, each fitted with Carrier Transicold Pulsor 400 MT (multi-temperature) refrigeration units.
The Exeter-based oprator says the Pulsor unit's pull-down speed means it reaches the setpoint twice as fast as conventional refrigeration technology.
"So far, the Pulsor units have really impressed us," says Steve Brown, Priority's managing director. "Mechanically, they haven't missed a beat, and the pull-down speed saves us significant time."
Patented E-Drive technology, adapted from its Vector all-electric trailer system, is key to the unit's performance, according to Carrier's.
Reliability improves due to fewer moving parts, the firm explains.
It also transforms engine power into electricity via a generator. An inverter then regulates the power delivered according to refrigeration needs, while a variable-speed hermetic compressor delivers constant capacity in all refrigeration phases.
The Pulsor 400 MT unit can reach full refrigeration capacity at low engine speeds (1,000rpm) – key for Priority Transport, because its fleet routinely operates in city centres across Europe.
"With the Pulsor units, even our smallest delivery vehicles have the ability to simultaneously cool and heat multiple compartments varying between -30 and 30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees and 86 degrees Fahrenheit)," adds Brown.
