Robert Summers Transport looks forward to arrival of Actros1

Robert Summers Transport is looking forward to taking delivery of one of the 100 limited edition Mercedes-Benz Actros1 trucks – the tractor goes into service on 1 September, but was on show earlier this month at Truckfest Scotland.

On order from dealer Western Commercial – and displayed on the dealer’s stand at Truckfest – the Fife-based haulier has specified the more economical engine option, a 12.8-litre OM471 with 523bhp output.

The new generation OM471 delivers a 6% reduction in diesel consumption, according to the manufacturer, and fuel efficiency is further enhanced in this and the 15.6-litre, 617bhp OM473 option with optional Predictive Powertrain Control and Fleetboard telematics.

“We were due another vehicle anyway, but I was keen that it should also be a new flagship for the fleet. Actros1 fitted the bill perfectly,” says David Summers, managing director.

The engine spec is higher than others in his fleet, he adds, but he is confident it can deliver the required mpg performance.

“As well as ticking all of the boxes in terms of its appearance, our Actros1 should prove a sound financial investment – it’s a truck that appeals to the head, as well as the heart,” Summers says.
