Skyline Roofing Centres has extended its 15-strong rigid fleet with its first Euro 6 truck, a 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Antos 2530 – also the first Mercedes truck to join its fleet.
Supplied by dealer S&B Commercials, the six-wheeler was specified with a short ClassicSpace day cab and a rear-steer axle for extra manoeuvrability.
Skyline's Antos also has the 7.7-litre, 300bhp BlueEfficiency engine mated to an eight-speed PowerShift 3 automated transmission.
The dropside body was fitted by WS Coachworks, and it also has a rear-mounted, remote radio-controlled Terex Atlas crane.
"We've tried various makes of vehicle over the years, but this is our first Mercedes-Benz," says Ryan Revell, Skyline director.
"We'll be closely monitoring its running costs and paying particular attention to fuel efficiency, because we spend a great deal of money on diesel each year," he continues.
"If the Antos proves as cost-effective to operate as we've been led to believe, then there's every prospect of S&B Commercials and Mercedes-Benz increasing their share of our fleet in the future."
The Antos heavy-duty distribution range replaces Mercedes' Axor and Actros day cab models. It is available as an 18- or 26-tonne rigid, or as a 4x2, 6x2 or on-road 6x4 tractor unit.
Skyline's Antos is now delivering Skyline's roofing and building products from its depot in Lewisham, south London – one of eight around the capital.
