Todds lifts profitability with lightweight tipper trailers from Schmitz

Todds Highway Maintenance has taken delivery of three lightweight half-pipe tipper trailers from Schmitz Cargobull to meet increased business demand.

The tippers – two 7.2m and one 8.2m – join the Darlington-based operator’s fleet of five tipper trailers, four low loaders and 14 rigid tippers, carrying aggregates and working with the company’s seven road planers – its core business activity.

Todds Highway Maintenance director Graeme Todd says: “We have been running Schmitz Cargobull tippers since 2009 and have always been impressed by the design, build quality and the trailers’ overall performance.

“Transporting large volumes of material represents a significant cost to our business, so having a lightweight tri-axle tipper trailer allows us to maximise on payload, meaning fewer trips and therefore increased profitability.”

The trailers are made from high-strength steel, keeping the unladen weight low and enabling maximum payload to be carried.

The tippers feature a bolt-on, bolt-off construction – making them easy to repair in the event of damage – along with a 5mm trough floor and a steel top-hinged tailgate, Schmitz Cargobull’s Rotos running gear, and an electronic braking system with rollover stability programme.

The trailers will work on a 24/7 basis and are expected to be in service for six years.
