Tough Fuso Canter pulls its weight for John Graham

Impressed by build quality, towing capacity and a competitive finance package, John Graham Contracting has bought its first Fuso Canter truck.
The 3.5-tonne Canter 3C13 replaces the company's previous van-based vehicle, which was written off in an accident. "The van-derived chassis cab had its limitations," admits John Graham, owner of John Graham Contracting. "Our work takes me off-road into quarries most days, so I need a vehicle that can stand up to the job. The Canter is built like a proper truck, with a ladder frame and twin rear wheels." Graham says the Canter's 3.5-tonne towing capacity is also very useful, since he tows a trailer carrying a two-tonne digger hitched to the back. "Likewise, the fact that the Canter rides that bit higher then my last vehicle also means there's increased protection from damage," he adds. Graham's Canter was specified with a light alloy dropside body from Robinson Truck Bodies, of Blaydon, while power comes from a 130bhp engine mated to Fuso's Duonic twin-plate automated transmission. "The Duonic gearbox is excellent," confirms Graham. "It takes a lot of the strain out of driving, especially in traffic, and the truck is still returning 23mpg. The cab is also well-designed and comfortable with easy access, and the engine brake is very effective as well."
