UK universities are way ahead of the national average for electric vehicle ownership, according to research by Intelligent Car Leasing.
Whereas just 0.11% of new vehicle registrations in 2013 were for electric vehicles, the figure for universities across the UK shows that 7.73% of vehicles are electric powered – making their ownership 7073% above the national average.
Out of the 114 universities that responded, 58.77% owned at least one electric vehicle, while most of those that don't yet own electric vehicles plan to invest in such technology in the near future.
The five most popular electric vehicles in university ownership, in rank order, are: Aixam Mega Van (pictured); Renault Kangoo; Goupil G3; Nissan Leaf; and E-Z GO Buggy.
The top universities are: Bucks New University, 66%; Edge Hill University, 50%; University of East London, 45.50%; University of Bedfordshire, 33%; and Royal Holloway, University of London, 33%.
