Viking, alongside National Tyres, is part of Axle Group Holdings, and had previously used standard 7.5 tonners supplied by OEMs.
However, purchase and logistics manager Stewart Mackenzie says that, their body length and height were not ideal for the company’s payload requirements.
“We use these trucks primarily for transport of light commercial and high performance tyres, which, due to their weight, meant that we could never fill our previous 7.5 tonners to capacity,” explains Mackenzie.
“The opportunity to work with Ryder enabled us to design a specification including shorter and lower height bodies that provide increased payloads,” he says.
The new DAF LFs have now entered service on contract hire at Viking depots in Edinburgh and Tonbridge.
