Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an electric prototype van, based on its Vito model and featuring lithium-ion technology.
The van will offer an average range of 130km, depending on driving style, from its 400V, 16 A, 32kWh battery pack, and is, says Mercedes-Benz, aimed at urban operation, involving short-distance journeys.
Peak power is quoted as 90kW, and the vehicle has an electronically limited top speed of 80km/h.
The Stuttgart-based manufacturer says the van will enter complete vehicle production later this year.
Initially, a fleet of around 100 vehicles will be delivered to 20 customers – fleet operators and public authorities wishing to boast their clean, green credentials.
Mercedes-Benz adds that the next phase of production will see a further 2,000 vans manufactured.
