Volvo FMX goes the extra mile for RK Bell

Rigids Tippers
Civil engineering and plant hire firm RK Bell has taken delivery of a new Volvo FMX rigid tipper, citing Volvo’s ability to deliver more with a standard spec truck than other manufacturers.

Supplied by Truck and Bus Wales and West, the Bridgwater-based operator’s new addition is a 5,100mm wheelbase 8x4, specified with Extra High B-Ride chassis height to protect the vehicle from damage when off road and to provide more visibility for the driver.

The Day cabbed vehicle is powered by a D13K engine delivering 414bhp and driving through an I-Shift automated gearbox.

“As a standard lorry, Volvo offers more than the other manufacturers,” says Wayne Salter, transport manager at RK Bell.

“You don’t have to add a lot of extras. With a different truck, you’d have to add on a lot more to get to the same standard.”

Despite initial reservations about driving an automatic, RK Bell’s driver is now “really impressed” with the FMX after a day’s training on the benefits of the I-Shift automated transmission, adds Salter.

RK Bell has opted for a two-year Volvo Gold R&M contract.
