“Originally we always bought Volvo trucks, but I shifted to another manufacturer after they offered us a good deal,” explains Ian Berrisford, director.
The other vehicles are “simply not up to the job”, he says, whereas an old ’03 plate Volvo FL6 – a spare vehicle – is “the best in my yard by far”.
Supplied by dealer Hartshorne Motor Services, the new addition is an FE-818 4x2 rigid chassis with 3,900mm wheelbase fitted with a Volvo D8K Euro 6 engine producing 247bhp and a Johnston Sweeper body.
It also features Kelsa light bars, rear view mirror guards and paintwork by Lant Lane.
The vehicle is also the first in the fleet to feature an automated manual transmission, with Volvo’s I-Shift. “It’s all new to us, we’ve always had manual gearboxes, but it’s easy to drive and is doing really well,” says Berrisford.
“I’ve ordered another lorry to the same specifications for March delivery, then once that’s on the fleet we’ll order the next for later in the year, and so on” he adds.
The vehicle is supplied with a Volvo Gold R&M contract.
