Roberts Bakery has extended its 82-strong fleet with its first Volvo trucks, a Euro 6 12-tonne FL and a Euro 6 18-tonne FE.
Supplied by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich, the FL has a 5.1-litre, four-cylinder D5K engine rated at 210bhp, while the FE was specified with the 8-litre, six-cylinder D8K engine, rated at 250bhp.
Maximum torques at between 1,100 and 1,700 rpm are 800Nm and 950Nm, respectively. Both vehicles have also been fitted with Volvo's Dynafleet telematics to monitor fuel efficiency.
The Northwich-based operator is part of the Frank Roberts and Sons group and says the total package, including dealer service, clinched the deal.
"Dealer location and support are very important to us, as is a dealer's first-time MOT pass rate," explains fleet and transport manager Nick Crank.
"Roberts Bakery has achieved 100% in the last three years and we were pleased to see that Thomas Hardie has a current first-time MOT pass rate of 98.5%."
Roberts Bakery specified the FL with Volvo's I-Sync automated transmission, with the recently launched automated I-Shift for the 18-tonne FE.
The FL is expected to cover 100,000km per year, and the FE 200,000km as it is used on double-shift operations.
Fleet replacements are made at 1.2 million km, or a maximum of six years.
