Volvo FM is jewel in the crown for Jem Centres

Rigids
Builders’ merchant Jem Centres has taken delivery of its first new truck, a Volvo FL 18-tonner, selected for its versatility and ability to deliver products in narrow streets.

Supplied by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, the Liverpool-based firm's new addition is specified with a D250K engine rated at 250bhp and I-Sync automated gearbox.

Drive axle suspension is steel leaf and bodywork is by Fosters Commercials, of Preston.

The FL is also fitted with a Fassi 110b.0.22 crane, which is mounted, with outriggers, on the rear of the chassis.

Janet Lloyd, director of Jem Centres, says the variety of building materials transported called for a "very versatile vehicle that can multi-task and also cope well with heavy traffic".

She adds: "We have always purchased used vehicles in the past and felt that we were, in effect, buying someone else's specification. This time, we decided to order the truck we need to do the job."

Driver Paul Mundle says the FL is performing well and likes the I-Sync gearbox. "The visibility is great too, with six mirrors, and the window in the cab rear panel really helps when manoeuvring."

The truck is on a five-year, Volvo Gold R&M contract, with the dealer collecting it on Saturday afternoons and returning it early Monday morning.
