The announcement was made at a Traton Group innovation day, held in Sweden, on 2 October. Traton Group, formerly Volkswagen Truck & Bus, owns the VWCO brand, along with MAN and Scania.
Partners within the e-consortium include: Siemens, for the charging infrastructure and equipment; CATL and Moura, for distribution and maintenance of battery packs; and Bosch, WEG and Semcon, for the development and supply of vehicle components.
The plan is to develop a “flexible architecture solution” to speed up development of electric commercial vehicles, says VWCO.
“Our team has conceived and built a pioneering technological configuration and a business model that will enable us to introduce our range of commercial electric vehicles on the world’s transport market,” said Roberto Cortes, chief executive of VWCO.
