Wrightbus announces deal, gains type approval

Bus & Coach
Lothian Buses has confirmed an order for 60 vehicles from Wrightbus and Volvo Buses. The deal, worth around £12m, is for Gemini 2 double deckers, which are based on Volvo's B9TL chassis.
The order adds to the 75 vehicles that have already been acquired by Lothian from Wrightbus over the past two years. All of the new models are 11.3m low-floor double deck buses with EEV 9.4-litre engines. These engines, which put out 310bhp, are mated to Voith gearboxes. Wrightbus has also announced that its latest addition to the company fleet, the StreetLite midi bus, has received a certificate of EC whole vehicle type approval from the VCA. Launched earlier this year, StreetLite brings what Wrightbus describes as new technology to the midi bus market, with independent front suspension, and a Cummins iSBe Euro 5-compliant engine. This powertrain breaks the tradition of Wrightbus' reliance on car-based engines from Ford and General Motors.
