Designed to improve accuracy, efficiency and speed of MOT testing, Delphi is about to introduce a wireless electronic test tool for truck and van workshops.
Its VOSA-approved MOT Test Master allows annual tests to be completed without the need for pen and paper – the results instead being entered onto the handheld device before being uploaded to the vehicle test station's computer.
Delphi's Test Master also offers on-screen test manuals, which technicians can refer to quickly, and can be converted to act as a diagnostic tool when mated to a Delphi vehicle communications interface, with associated software.
"This should reduce a one-hour MOT test by at least 10 minutes, once the technician is familiar with the device and uses it regularly," comments Lucia Moretti, vice president, Delphi Product and Service Solutions, EMEA.
"Feedback from MOT test stations indicates that the paper-based approach can cause problems when the test sheet is misplaced or mistakes are made copying results to the vehicle test station," she adds.
"Using an electronic device offers technicians a straightforward, paperless alternative to MOT testing and allows for data to be captured and recorded more accurately."
Moretti also suggests that, by investing in an electronic MOT test tool, garages will be better prepared to comply with future MOT testing, where interrogating ECUs for emissions data is expected.
Included in the package are the handheld device (Delphi 350UMPC), complete with an Ethernet cable and a case, a choice of one to three year MTT software licenses, £170 worth of additional software and a free 21-day trial of Delphi Technical Data covering technical and diagnostic information for cars and commercial vehicles.
Test stations purchasing the new device will also get a 25% discounted membership to the MOT club, a free annual site assessment and unlimited access to Delphi's technical helpline, enthuses Moretti.
