Federal-Mogul brake pads have been homologated for use on the new Mercedes-Benz Actros truck.
The Ferodo R&D team says it has produced two friction materials for the vehicle's front and rear axles, aimed at providing "outstanding high-temperature performance, durability and driver comfort".
"Developing two different materials has allowed us to achieve the optimum balance of performance and durability for the new Actros," comments Silvano Veglia, product marketing director, braking products.
For Actros front axles equipped with the Knorr-Bremse SN7-30 calliper and for rear axels fitted with Knorr-Bremse SN7-25 callipers, Federal-Mogul's new formulations focus on thermal distribution to prevent judder.
Both front and rear pads are outperforming the OE standards in terms of disc cracking, says Veglia, resulting in longer disc life.
And he points to several other features said to improve the pads' performance and reduce noise levels. For example, grooves engineered into the pads, along with radial chamfers, result in better pressure distribution on the pad and reduced brake squeal, so improving overall performance and service life.
