One of the new tests introduced for the MoT on 1 January is the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) check in which examiners must visually check that warnings lights for ESP, SRS, ABS and TPMS are not permanently illuminated.
Although diagnostic kit is not required to carry out the visual check, a diagnostic scan tool can read the fault code and establish problems, so allowing garages to fix faults and reset warning light.
Omitec says it is now offering a simple tool that fits the bill perfectly – in the form of its OmiCheck Service – a low cost addition to existing diagnostic kit, particularly for use in the MoT Lane.
The unit is upgradable to the company's full diagnostic suite, OmiCheck Professional, which covers up to in-depth diagnostic applications on a wide range manufacturers' vehicles.
