Truck driveshafts get longer life joints

Performance and durability have been improved on Dana's SPL (Spicer Life Series) heavy-duty universal joints.
Its SPL-170 assembly now features a new bearing package, with larger needle bearings, giving increased capacity, a Viton synthetic seal for improved grease retention and serviceability, and a thermoplastic seal guard to exclude contaminants. Dana says there's also a new premium synthetic lubricant that improves bearing life through the initial three-year or 350,000-mile lubrication interval. Torque rating is 17,000 Nm, and the new joint is intended for main and tandem drive inter-axle driveshaft applications for a variety of Class 8 heavy-duty truck applications. The assembly is also being offered with the Spicer Quick Disconnect feature, making it easier to service the powertrain.
