Currie European stresses importance of EN codification 15 June 2012

Currie European, the UK and European transport and logistics provider, is reporting an increasing number of European-based customers insisting that hauliers provide EN12462 Code XL codification-approved equipment. Without it, says the operator, they will not do business.

Servicing Currie European's operation is a trailer fleet of 480, including the recent addition of 30 sliding roof Profi Liner curtainsiders from Krone, all of which are compliant.

According to the European Commission – Directorate for Energy and Transport, EN 12642 – XL refers to the 'securing of cargo on road vehicles – body structure of commercial vehicles – minimum requirements'.

'Curtainsiders constructed according to the standard need to fulfil requirements regarding stability criteria and test conditions of the front wall, rear wall and side walls'.

"More and more customers require their hauliers to match up to EN 12642 XL," confirms Stephen Turner, managing director of Currie European.

"Frankly, it is the way we all have to go and, from a responsible health and safety perspective, it makes very good sense... As Krone is the European market leader in this area it was logical for us to seek a deal with them," he adds.

Turner also mentions the build quality and sliding roof and the chassis' 10 year corrosion guarantee, which matches the term each trailer will serve in the fleet.
