Fleet renewal with telematics drives cost savings07 November 2013

Cambridgeshire-based QV Foods has renewed its 12-strong fleet with Ryder, taking a mix of DAF XF105 and CF85 460hp 44-tonne tractor units on a five-year contract hire.

The new deal with Ryder includes the Microlise telematics system, which QV Foods hopes will enable it to achieve double-digit fuel savings.

Rob King, QV Foods' outbound logistics manager, comments: "Ryder is now supplying telematics with the new trucks and, after training is completed, we expect to improve driver efficiency and decrease overall fuel consumption to provide cost savings of around 10% per annum."

The new tractors will operate with QV Foods' existing trailers from the company's depots in March and Holbeach. They will collect crated potatoes and vegetables from farms across the East of England and, after processing, undertake deliveries to markets and retailers.
