Supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealer Sparshatts of Kent, the operator’s new addition is a Canter 3C13 model with Comfort day cab. The new vehicle is powered by a 130bhp, 3.0-litre engine, which produces 300 Nm of torque at low revs, and the truck’s tipping body is by TGS Group, of Bristol.
The Canter is used to carry and tip general garden waste, and Brown regularly makes full use of its payload potential. “Most 3.5-tonners are based on vans, but the Canter is a proper little truck and built to take plenty of punishment,” he says. “It’s just a great all-round tool.”
He adds: “My old truck was bullet-proof... It never gave me any problems at all.” Sparshatts took the first Canter in part-exchange for the replacement vehicle.
The new model has a fuel-saving stop-start system and, says Brown, “it is definitely more economical than our last tipper”.
“It’s also a lot more comfortable,” he adds. “The latest Canter has a new, air-sprung cab, which I really like.”
