The role: Reporting to the Business Improvement Director the Technical Standards Manager will lead on the technical standards applied to new vehicles design/existing vehicle modifications and the day to day aspects of inspection, diagnostic and repairs within UK Bus, ensuring FirstGroup operate safe, reliable and cost effective buses.
The role: Reporting to the Business Improvement Director the Technical Standards Manager will lead on the technical standards applied to new vehicles design/existing vehicle modifications and the day to day aspects of inspection, diagnostic and repairs within UK Bus, ensuring FirstGroup operate safe, reliable and cost effective buses.
The key responsibilities are as follows:
• Take the lead with external Government departments and agencies regarding technical transport legislation (existing, emerging and new).
• Lead on internal Engineering projects as directed.
• Lead on Operations projects as directed.
• Lead on System Engineer work streams as directed.
• Lead on all internal and external campaign work.
• Lead key suppliers on key Engineering and Operational issues as directed.
• Ensure all technical polices and procedures are up to date and effectively communicated to engineering staff.
• Ensure UK Bus inspection and servicing schedules are up to date and complaint with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Act as project manager on various aspects of Group maintenance and inspection programs as directed by line management and or the Business.
• Manage key suppliers to the Business where required.
• Maintain the UK Bus maintenance SOPs.
• Manage the UK Bus Top Tips library.
• Manage manufacturer and supplier technical bulletins and instructions.
• Manage the day to day work schedule of the Technical Information Manager and deputise for Business Improvement Director.
You: The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
• Minimum NVQ level 4 or City and Guilds level 3, or equivalent.
• Recent experience of dealing with current and new transport legislation.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Full PCV licence.
• Ability to work both unsupervised and within a team.
• Be competent in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
