Biffa gives green light to Isuzu for trucks in London and Manchester

Waste management business Biffa has deployed ten new Isuzu 3.5-tonne Grafter Green trucks on the streets of London and Manchester this summer, working in the operator’s industrial and municipal fleets.

The ten Isuzu N35.125 rigids have been supplied with a mix of caged tippers and dropside bodies.

Five, with caged tipper bodies, have gone into service at Biffa’s Gorton depot, on street cleaning and litter collection contracts for Manchester City Council.

“Initially, we took an Isuzu on demonstration for evaluation purposes and it was well received by the team here,” says Biffa’s Steve Lea.

“It proved to be reliable in service, which is why we have now taken these five new Grafters for the council contract here in Manchester.”

“Without doubt, the Isuzus are extremely fit for purpose and for the future they will be our ‘go-to’ marque for this type of application,” he adds.

The other five have a mix of caged tipper and dropside bodies, and are in operation in central London. They have reversing cameras, with in-cab monitors, and have left-turn audible warning systems.

Colin Bagnall, Biffa’s fleet project engineer, says: “With the London ULEZ in place, we knew we needed to replace some non-compliant vehicles and the Euro VI Isuzu Grafter Green perfectly met our requirements for compliance.”
