Containerships is trialling dual-fuel technology and has funding support from Innovate UK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board). The company has acquired two dual-fuel trucks, with the option to invest in more after the trials.
BOC's new facility incorporates 'zero loss' refuelling technology, which uses cryogenic cooling to condition the fuel prior to dispensing.
BOC has 10 dual-fuel trucks which will refuel at the station before transporting industrial gases to customers in the region.
"BOC is extremely proud to open our new LNG refuelling station in Middlesbrough and to offer Containerships access to this important, environmentally friendly alternative to diesel," says Mark Lowe, BOC's LNG business manager.
Andrew Frost, managing director of Containerships, adds: "We are delighted with the assistance and support that BOC have provided as we look to establish LNG as a clean alternative fuel to diesel within our heavy truck and shipping fleet."
