The free-to-use service (click the link below) will help operators to determine whether their vehicles are compliant and if any additional safety devices need to be fitted, says Brigade.
DVS will be enforced from 26 October next year, but the first permits are now being issued under the HGV Safety Permit scheme.
DVS uses a rating system of zero to five stars: zero-rated HGVs will need to be fitted with additional safety systems, including a camera monitoring system, an audible left-turn warning and sensors, before October 2020.
The additional equipment will not change a vehicle’s DVS star rating, but will raise the safety standard of the vehicle, allowing a Safety Permit to be granted.
Vehicles rated between one and five stars will be compliant until 2024, when the minimum level increases to three stars.
