Companies at the forefront of cutting carbon emissions from road transport will be announed at a new awards ceremony tomorrow at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) annual conference on July 14.
The inaugural LowCVP Low Carbon Champion Awards recognise best practice in vehicle manufacturers, fuel suppliers, fleet operators and developers of products and services that reduce greenhouse gases from the road transport sector.
Greg Archer, managing director of LowCVP, says: "These Awards define excellence and innovation, identifying the leaders in accelerating the shift to low carbon vehicles and fuels. The quality of the 50 plus entries was exceptional and demonstrates the vibrancy of UK businesses and organisations in striving to create new markets for lower carbon vehicles."
Following a rigorous judging process, LowCVP says that a total of 22 companies and organisations made the awards shortlist.
Shorlisted for the Buses Award are Alexander Dennis; Go Ahead London; TfL and London Bus Services, while for the Road Freight Award, companies in the frame are: Commercial Group; Iveco and Smith Electric Vehicles.
As for the Innovation Award, shortlisted companies are Intelligent Energy; Gordon Murray Design; Oxford Yasa Motors and Controlled Power Technologies.
This year's event will see Transport Minister Norman Baker deliver the government's first major speech on low carbon transport. Archer also promises major announcements from other bodies, on the sustainability of biofuels, trials of hybrid buses in London and a new low carbon road map for HGVs.
