Building services business James Frew has cut its fuel bill by almost 30% in the past year, thanks to a new vehicle tracking solution.
The Stevenston, Ayrshire-based company replaced its existing system with the web-based Ctrack Online, incorporating a driver behaviour solution, across its 110-strong van fleet.
The system includes Ctrack's Driver Behaviour Indicator (DBI), an in-vehicle device that using traffic light warning lights and alarms to alert drivers to infringements such as harsh acceleration or braking, and speeding.
The system also includes a driver league table reporting tool, which is enabling James Frew to identify best and worst performers, and therefore take any necessary action. The company has targeted improvement at the bottom 10% of drivers, with the worst offenders being sent on an eco-driving course.
"We implemented a fleet improvement strategy that targeted operational savings through enhancements to driver behaviour, as well as our routing and scheduling processes," says Sandy Clare, financial director.
"The Ctrack solution has become an essential part of this programme, helping us to reduce costs by almost 30%, and we expect to make further associated fleet savings as the system becomes further embedded in our operation."
