Supplied by Freeway Fleet Systems, the paperless system sees engineers equipped with rugged tablets to replace paper job cards and inspection sheets. The system will provide Gaskells with real-time visibility of all maintenance work and business information to improve fleet management.
Established in 1991, Gaskells is a family-run, recycling-led waste management company based in Liverpool. With a fleet of 45 refuse trucks, the carbon-neutral company provides commercial waste collection and recycling services across the northwest of England and Wales, operating 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.
Gaskells is replacing a previous system that proved unsuitable and was poorly supported. Freeway will provide a complete end-to-end fleet management system – managing scheduled maintenance, driver checks, defects, compliance, stores, and purchasing.
“We had previously implemented another system but we realised it just wasn’t comprehensive enough, and the supplier was not responsive to our needs,” said Ray Burns, fleet manager, Gaskells Waste Services.
“I’d become familiar with Freeway elsewhere so I knew it could do everything we needed. And Freeway is backed by a responsive team that always delivers, and that’s been proven as we’ve implemented the software here at Gaskells.”
Gaskells is particularly impressed with the reporting capabilities of Freeway that will be used to look at streamlining operations and improving the utilisation of resources. Through complete digitisation and the integration of data across all aspects of fleet engineering, Gaskells will be able to build a complete picture of where improvements can be made and what extra capacity exists.
“Running a workshop is costly so we are planning to expand our commercial workshop services to utilise excess capacity and grow the business,” Burns explained. “At present we just don’t have good enough insights into our operating performance and costs, but Freeway will not only address this, but also help us to really optimise the resources we already have.”
