In the event of a no-deal Brexit, drivers will need additional documentation to drive in the EU and EEA. The UK-issued community licences may no longer be recognised, says the DVSA, so it is recommending that transport managers apply for ECMT international haulage permits.
Applications can be made via the operator’s online operator licence account with DVSA, but the number of ECMT permits will be limited. DVSA expects applications to open on 26 November and says transport managers must take steps now to ensure they are ready to apply on that date. Click the link below for more details.
The guidance also includes information on trailer registrations. Operators transporting goods to or through certain countries will need to ensure that commercial trailers over 750kg and all trailers over 3,500kg are registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and display their own registration plate, separate from the vehicle towing them.
