Haulier drives up standards and compliance with RTITB D-CPC training

Driver CPC
Haulage and warehousing firm Jack Richards & Son is reporting improved standards and compliance since joining RTITB’s Master Driver CPC Consortium in 2015.

The Fakenham-based operator joined the group to address the D-CPC needs of its 500-plus drivers, as well as ensuring its instructors had the best support, and says RTITB’s service is “genuinely good value”.

Eight instructors were trained to receive RTITB’s recognised qualification, enabling them to deliver D-CPC periodic training each year using materials from RTITB’s course library.

Part of the firm’s strategy to “challenge complacency” around training, it says the training materials enable instructors to tailor the course and use different delivery methods.

“The RTITB training is delivered in a way that respects drivers and treats them as our most vital resource. This has been key to increasing loyalty and retention among driving staff,” says Demus Smerdon, training manager at Jack Richards & Son.

“Although seven hours of Driver CPC training a year is not enough to change a company, it’s enough to cement drivers’ skills and responsibilities and bring about a culture change for the better,” he adds.

“Operations that treat Driver CPC as a ‘box-ticking’ exercise are missing a trick.”
