Haulier says Volvo FH with top-spec tipping gear is ‘best ever’

Tippers Tipping Gear
East Yorkshire-based haulier Robinson Contract Services has taken delivery of two new Volvo FH bulk tippers, fitted with top-spec L120 underfloor tipping gear, from Harsh.

Delivering “unmatched stability”, according to Harsh, the L120 was originally designed for use with trailers tipping 30-tonne loads.

Robinson’s transport director Craig Stainforth says: “For us, safety and performance are paramount. As a rule, we’re always interested in something that gives us a bit extra, a little bit more than what the base job actually requires... As a result, we just buy the most stable tipping gear we can.”

Other benefits to operating highly specced vehicles include driver appeal, fuel economy, residual values and brand image, he adds.

The L120’s ultra-rigid stability frame is fitted outside the dual tipping cylinders to keep the body closely aligned to the truck chassis. With the body lowered and the tipping gear folded away between the chassis rails, the L120 is also safe from incidental damage such as materials dropped from shovels when loading, according to Harsh.

For bulk tipper work, Robinson’s new FHs set the highest possible standard, says Stainforth: “Having a proper sleeper cab also adds to the truck’s operating versatility... These really are our best tippers ever and we’re absolutely delighted with the end result.”
