"We always go for top-spec tippers," adds Staveley. "I want the best trucks possible, whether tractors, trailers or tipping gears."
For LJS Transport, the Wilcox/Hyva trailer combination has proved successful, and is now effectively the fleet standard.
"The fact is, for us the latest Hyva Alpha rams tick all the boxes," says Staveley. "They are fast, very stable and completely reliable. The FC169's extra-long 7,130mm stroke also gives us a really high tipping angle, helping us to get the load out more quickly and thereby speeding up the whole tipping cycle."
The DAF XF tractor will also be used with the operator's other trailer types, which include general purpose plank-siders and walking floors.
LJS is also planning to expand its fleet in the coming months with an 8x4 Volvo FM Tridem and a 6x4 low cab FH tractor – the latter will run with the first Wilcox/Hyva insulated tipping trailer fitted with both a rear steer axle and a sliding bogie.
