Rickerby’s Isuzu truck brings payload advantages

The decision to replace a 3.5-tonne truck with a narrow-cabbed 5-tonne Isuzu rigid seems to be paying dividends for horticultural equipment dealer Rickerby.
This particular specification of vehicle has enabled the Carlisle-based operator to achieve a full two tonnes carrying capacity. That's almost twice the payload of the outgoing model, but with virtually the same physical footprint. In addition the narrow cab and proportionately designed body make it an easy vehicle to manoeuvre through the Cumbrian roads and helps Rickerby's to adhere to its customer equipment delivery programme. The Isuzu Forward N50.150 chassis cab was specified with a beavertail body, and the vehicle is the first Isuzu in the Rickerby fleet. Supplied by Cumbria Truck Centre, the new addition is powered by a 3-litre, 150bhp, Euro 5, EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly) engine, and has the same compact, but well equipped, cab as the Isuzu 3.5t Grafters. In addition the narrow cab and proportionately designed body make it an easy vehicle to manoeuvre through the Cumbrian road systems and really helps Rickerby's to adhere to its demanding customer equipment delivery programme. "We were looking for a truck that would enable us to increase payload without increasing the actual vehicle size," recalls Martyn Henderson, sales manager at Rickerby. "The Isuzu 5-tonner is absolutely perfect for this job and we are extremely pleased with the vehicle's performance," he adds. On a single driver operation, the new Isuzu is being used to deliver to customers within the locality. It works on six-day week deliveries, mainly on short-run jobs carrying smaller agricultural equipment.
