The truck – which replaces an older vehicle – is a 2008-plate Iveco Stralis AS440 S45 TX/P with EBS, previously leased by Ryder to an unnamed third party logistics supplier.
“By donating this truck to Stephenson College, we ensure that our apprentices are properly prepared, and develop their skills by working on a modern truck,” comments Lucy Bartlett, Ryder’s learning and development advisor.
On average, Ryder recruits a dozen Apprentice Technicians a year and they attend the college on block-release – with the good performers encouraged to continue their training with Level 4 diploma or Level 4 HNC courses.
“This is a very welcome donation that the staff and especially the students are extremely grateful for. We have a special relationship with Ryder; their HGV apprenticeship programme is a model of best practice,” states Mark Walker, faculty head at Stephenson College.
