Scania prize for Sainsbury’s top driver

Chris Harris has won Sainsbury’s driver of the year competition, picking up a trophy and the keys to a next-generation Scania R450 truck to use for the next four years.

It’s third time lucky for Harris, who is based at the retailer’s Waltham Point RDC, in Essex, as he was runner-up last year and third in 2014.

Harris (pictured) beat almost 600 colleagues, both from Sainsbury’s and its logistics providers. The judging is rigorous and begins with numerous tests and month-long monitoring at a local level.

This is followed by a theory test and hazard perception session, before the two-day national final which features on- and off-road tests such as manoeuvring and a vehicle defect challenge.
