Thompsons to open Scottish factory

Bodybuilder Thompsons has announced that it will open a new factory in Scotland, with several sites being considered in the central belt between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The company says the new factory will complete its UK coverage – it already has three factories in Croydon, three in Blackburn and owns Charlton in Dover.

“Over the last couple of years, we have sold more tipper bodies than ever north of the border, so we know how well our products are being received and hence what is the company’s real future potential in this market,” says director Simon Shields.

The company already supplies tipper bodies to several Scottish fleets, including Dumbarton-based Wm Thompson & Son (pictured) and Miller Plant in Aberdeen.

Thompsons will be recruiting staff in the area for bodywork production, sales, service and parts support, administration and management.

The company will be exhibiting at TIP-Ex, Harrogate, from 1-3 June.
