Testing and trials are underway for the updated irtec scheme. Sessions have taken place at service maintenance technician level, with further work planned for the inspection technician grade as we go to press.
IRTE says its regional centres that have conducted tests and trials have given a positive response to the upgrades, as have engineers in the industry. "I am in full support of these changes [as] they appear to be very relevant in the industry," says Dave Parson from TransLinc.
The Co-Operative Group's Owen Roberts says: "I support an inspection technician grade, it would be useful to be able to specify a base qualification such as this when sub-contracting out vehicle maintenance."
