The UK's transport minister, Paul Clark launched the Van Best Practice programme late last year, offering practical advice to van operators about how to improve efficiency and save fuel.
The government is claiming that a 5% reduction in fuel will save £250 million a year, and cut carbon emissions by 750,000 tonnes.
Release of the guide comes as the Department for Transport published the results of research into van driver behaviour. Its study showed that more than half of drivers only think about cutting fuel costs on a journey, while only 7% think of fuel efficiency first during journey planning.
